Avalon Golf Course (‘Royal Av.’)

Avalon Golf Course (“Royal Av”) on a hillside site in Avalon Beach, is a classic 9 hole public golf course, owned by Northern Beaches Council with its management leased out to a private company. It is the only golf course on the Peninsula with availability from dawn to dusk.

Importantly, it is a significant open space in Avalon Beach and a home and migration path for wildlife. With the Avalon Beach Place Plan process having commenced, it is crucial that we ensure that Royal Av is quarantined from any future suggestion of possible residential development (note we have no current indication of this, but eternal vigilance is the watchword).

Recently the following wildlife was spotted at Royal Av.:

  • 28 ducks (adolescents and adults)
  • 6 dusky moorhens
  • 5 plovers
  • many rainbow lorikeets
  • several sulphur-crested cockatoos
  • many delightful magpies
  • and a few peewees
